Haramain High Speed Rail, Saudi Arabia

We’re starting the year by celebrating some of our proudest moments, in a new series of posts called Project Highlights. The first project we focus on is the Haramain High Speed Rail (HHR) in Saudi Arabia.

This $7bn major infrastructure project involved the design and construction of the High Speed Railway line between the cities of Mecca and Medina. The project called for 450 km of double track with a design speed of 320 km/hour, which will be primarily used by pilgrims traveling between two cities.

Several stations have been designed to be constructed along the railway line, with the most significant ones located in Mecca, Jeddah, King Abdullah Economic City and Medina. MOBISPA mobile concrete batching plants were used by ABNI Group and the Spanish leading contractor OHL, member of Al-Shoula Group, a Spanish-Saudi consortium implementing the second phase of the HHR project.

Special recipes with S1 class slump were required to feed the slipform paver, and the MOBISPA plants proved excellent in completing this task and scored very high marks in efficiency and reliability. A specialized team of SPANOS engineers were supervising the entire production procedure, providing 24/7 technical support.
