Egnatia Motorway: 73 tunnels of 100 km

The €4,3bn Egnatia Motorway project was one of the most important modern infrastructure projects in Greece. The motorway allowed for easier, shorter and safer connection between Greece, Europe, the Balkans and Asia Minor.

The Egnatia motorway project centered around the construction of the Greek part of European route E90. It extends from the western port of Igoumenitsa to the eastern Greek–Turkish border at Kipoi, running a total of 670 km, including 73 tunnels with a combined length of 100 km.

The motorway connects 4 ports, 6 airports across 9 vertical axes, allowing convenient and fast access to countries of South-Eastern Europe.

SPANOS supplied 80% of all tunneling formworks, made by CIFA, to the main contractors of the project such as AKTOR and J&P.
